FAQ
A standard frameless hinged install runs $2,600 to $3,900 for a single-door inline configuration in 3/8" tempered clear glass with measurement and pro install. Neo-angle and 90-degree corner enclosures (Canto, Luxe) typically start around $3,400. Glass upgrades (1/2" thickness, low-iron HD, ClearShield) are itemized separately.
In-home measurement, delivery of glass and hardware, removal of any existing shower door, install by a 2-person crew, hinge alignment and torque-spec tightening, glass setting and sealing, leak testing, and walkthrough. Inline doors run 2 to 4 hours; neo-angle and 3-panel corner enclosures run 4 to 6 hours.
Typically 2 to 3 weeks for in-stock hinged kits (Solo, Prima) - measurement first, then install scheduled within 1 to 2 weeks. Custom hinged doors and corner enclosures (Canto, Luxe) average 4 to 6 weeks: 7 to 10 business days for fabrication, plus install scheduling.
A hinged shower door swings on side-mounted hinges attached to the wall or fixed glass panel. A pivot door rotates on top-and-bottom pivot points and can swing both directions. Hinged is sturdier for heavier 1/2" glass; pivot offers more swing flexibility in tight bathrooms. We typically recommend hinged unless your layout needs pivot.
Most building codes require a frameless hinged shower door to swing outward into the bathroom, not into the shower. That way a person inside can exit even if they slip and lean on the door. Pivot doors are the exception - they swing both directions. We confirm swing direction during measurement.
Tile, fiberglass, and acrylic all work as wall surfaces, but each has different requirements. Tile is the most straightforward. Fiberglass and acrylic walls usually need structural reinforcement because the surface panel alone can't carry hinged door weight. The measurement tech confirms wall material and quotes any reinforcement separately if needed.
Four configurations: single inline door (Solo) for compact alcoves; door + return panel (Prima) for openings up to 84"; 90-degree corner enclosure (Canto) for corner showers; and neo-angle five-panel (Luxe) for angled corner showers. Inline is the most common; neo-angle is the design-forward choice.
3/8" tempered glass is the residential standard and works for nearly every frameless hinged door - strong and lighter on the hinges. 1/2" tempered is heavier and feels more substantial; we typically recommend it for oversized doors over 36" wide, pivot installs, and design-forward projects.
Yes - and a hinged door is often the better choice for curbless layouts because there is no floor track to interrupt the tile transition. We use stop blocks and a magnetic catch to hold the door closed without a curb. Curbless hinged installs are common for aging-in-place projects.
Single hinged doors typically span up to 36" wide. For 36" to 84" openings, we add a fixed return or inline panel (Prima configuration). For openings wider than 84" or corner showers, the layout shifts to a 3-panel inline or 5-panel neo-angle enclosure. We map the right configuration during measurement.
Hinges anchor through the wall finish into wall studs or solid blocking with torque-spec stainless screws. Sag almost always traces to anchors that missed the stud, hinges over-tightened during install, or hinges installed without solid backing. Our pro installs verify backing before drilling and torque to spec.
Custom-fabricated hinged doors carry a 3-year warranty covering glass, hardware, hinge function, seals, and install workmanship. In-stock hinged kits installed by our crew carry a 1-year warranty. Both cover hinge sag, glass defects, and seal integrity under normal use.
Yes - removal is included in the install fee. Our crew breaks the silicone seal, lifts the old glass on a moving blanket, removes the frame or hinges, patches old screw holes, and hauls everything away. Older framed doors sometimes have non-tempered glass, which is why pro removal is the safer route.
Yes. Frameless hinges include adjustable shimming with up to 1/2" of in/out play and 1/4" of side-to-side adjustment, which covers typical wall variation. The measurement tech checks plumb at three heights so the install kit includes the right shims. For severely out-of-plumb walls, we may recommend a wider hinge mount.
In-stock hinged kits (Solo, Prima) are pre-fabricated to standard sizes, ship in 1 to 2 days, install within 2 weeks, and carry a 1-year warranty. Custom hinged doors are fabricated to your exact opening, take 7 to 10 business days, install within 4 to 6 weeks, and carry a 3-year warranty.
A hinged door needs a clear swing arc - usually 24" to 36" of unobstructed space in front of the shower. In small bathrooms with a vanity or toilet inside the swing arc, a sliding door is usually the better call. We measure the swing arc during the in-home visit.
For frameless hinged doors, swing direction is set at fabrication based on which side the hinges mount and the bevel of the seals. It generally cannot be flipped afterward without re-cutting the glass. Pivot doors are different - they swing both directions natively. Confirm swing direction during measurement.
Our professional installation service covers the DMV area (Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC). Outside that radius, we ship Solo, Prima, and Canto kits nationwide for DIY install with free phone, text, and video support. Luxe remains an install-focused option within our service area.
It depends on three factors: opening width, swing clearance, and bathroom size. Hinged shower doors work best for openings 24" to 84", larger bathrooms with swing arc, and curbless layouts. Sliding doors fit narrower or shared bathrooms with limited swing space. Fixed-glass screens suit walk-in showers without doors. We confirm fit during measurement.
For most bathroom remodels, yes. Frameless hinged shower doors give a cleaner, more open look than framed alternatives, last longer because there is no metal frame to corrode, and add resale value. The trade-off is a higher upfront cost - frameless typically runs $1,000 to $1,500 more than framed at the same opening size.
Hinged is best for full open access, larger bathrooms, and curbless layouts. Sliding is best for tight spaces, alcoves, and tub-to-shower remodels. Fixed-glass is best for doorless walk-in designs. We map your bathroom layout, opening size, and clearance during measurement and recommend the configuration that fits best.
