Good Fit

Is the 28"×78" Solo right for you?

The Solo DIY kit is the same frameless hinged shower door as our installed builds - a single glass door, no fixed panel, that swings on wall-mounted hinges. It's the simplest hinged build we make: one panel for a standard single-door opening, roughly 26-30" wide, with finished walls on both sides. Same 3/8" tempered glass, same solid-brass hardware, same optional factory nano-coating - you just handle the install in 2-4 hours with a helper and save the install premium. Wider opening that a single door can't span? Prima adds a fixed inline panel for the extra width.

Half-bath / powder room conversions

Your opening is a standard single-door width (about 26-30") with finished, square walls on both sides.

Walk-in shower stalls in older homes

You want the cleanest, simplest frameless look - one door, no extra panel or surrounding metal.

Custom alcove builds

You have 24-30" of unobstructed swing clearance in front, and studs or solid blocking behind the hinge-side wall.

Install Notes

DIY install — what to expect

Most homeowners install the Solo in 2-4 hours with a helper. It's a single hinged door - the simplest hinged build we make - and the hinges are reversible and adjustable, so the glass can be trued after mounting. The kit includes a printed step-by-step guide and a QR-code install video, plus free phone/text/video support if anything looks off. Plan for two people: the trickiest step is lifting the glass door into place.

  1. 1

Mount the wall channel and hinges

Anchor the U-channel and solid-brass hinge plates into the studs or solid blocking using the included template. The hinges carry the full weight of the glass, so solid anchoring is critical.

  2. 2

    Hang the hinged door

With a helper, lift the glass door onto the mounted hinges. Set the reversible hinge for inswing or outswing before you seat the glass.

  3. 3

    Adjust so it sits plumb

Fine-tune the hinges so the door hangs plumb with an even reveal along the strike jamb, and the magnetic side seal closes cleanly.

  4. 4

    Seal and cure

Run the vertical seals and bottom sweep, silicone the wall joints, and let it cure 24 hours before the first shower.

Solo vs. Prima

Solo is a single frameless hinged door - no fixed panel - for standard single-door openings, roughly 26-30" wide, with finished walls on both sides. Prima adds a fixed inline panel beside the door to span wider openings a single door can't reach. Solo is the simpler single door; Prima covers more layouts.

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Solo 28"×78" fit my shower opening?

The 28"×78" Solo kit is sized for openings within typical wall variation (1/4 inch top to bottom is normal). This SKU fits wall openings from 28 7/16" to 29 7/16" (per May 2026 catalog). Measure your opening width at three heights and use the smallest value. Tempered glass cannot be recut, so getting the measurement right matters before ordering.

Which finish should I choose?

Chrome is the most universal and pairs with most fixtures. Brushed Nickel hides water spots and pairs with warm-tone bathrooms. Matte Black suits modern/industrial designs. Satin Brass adds warmth and develops a subtle patina over years. Click any finish card above to see that specific variant's page with the full configurator.

What thickness glass does the Solo 28"×78" use?

This Solo kit uses 3/8" tempered clear glass — meets ANSI Z97.1 safety standards.

What if I need a different Solo size?

For sizes outside our in-stock Solo options, we fabricate custom shower doors to your exact opening — typically 5 to 7 business days. Click "Continue to Customizer" on any finish page to start a custom build.

What tools do I need to install the 28"×78" Solo?

4-foot level, tape measure, drill (carbide masonry bit for tile), Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, silicone caulk gun, painter's tape, rubber mallet, and a helper for the glass-setting step. All anchors, screws, and seals are in the kit.

How long does Solo 28"×78" take to ship and install?

In stock — ships within 2 business days from our U.S. warehouses. Free pickup at either location, $95 local delivery within 30 miles, or $300 flat nationwide shipping to the lower 48. Most kits arrive within 5 to 7 business days. DIY install takes 2 to 3 hours with a helper. Plan 24 hours of silicone cure time before the first shower.

How is the Solo 28"×78" kit packaged?

The kit ships in 2 boxes — one foam-padded crate for the glass panels (~85 lbs total for 28"×78") and one for hardware. The longer box is roughly 78 inches and fits through a standard door.

Do you ship to all 50 states?

Yes — standard ground shipping to all 48 contiguous states is $300 flat per enclosure. Free pickup also available at our U.S. warehouses, or $95 local delivery within 30 miles of either warehouse. Alaska and Hawaii are available with a freight surcharge; contact us for a quote.

Is glass type an upcharge?

Clear is the standard glass at the listed price. HD Low-Iron, Gray, Bronze, Rain, and Frosted glass each carry different upcharges depending on size. Selecting a glass type updates the price live at checkout.

How does DIY pricing compare to professional install?

DIY 28"×78" Solo saves roughly $400 to $700 vs professional install. You're trading 2 to 4 hours of your time for that savings. Pro install includes measurement, fabrication-to-fit, in-home installation, and a 3-year parts+labor warranty (vs 1-year DIY hardware-only).

What warranty comes with the Solo kit?

DIY-installed Solo kits include a 1-year warranty on glass, hardware, seals, and finish under normal use. Manufacturing defects are covered. Damage from improper install or wrong anchor type is not — call our DIY support line if you have questions before drilling.

Where can I find install help for the Solo 28"×78"?

Live phone, text, and video support 8am-5pm ET, 7 days a week. Step-by-step install video referenced on the printed instructions (QR code) and on our YouTube channel. Best to call before drilling permanent holes if anything is unclear.
